Superintendent's Message

September 1, 2021

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Guardians,

We are extremely excited to welcome our students back to in-person, full-time, five days a week learning for the first time in eighteen months! All students in grades 1-12 will start September 8, 2021, while Kindergarten will start on September 9, 2021, and Early Childhood on September 13, 2021.

As we reflect on last year, it is important to understand and appreciate the magnitude of the once in a lifetime challenges we experienced and overcame together as a school community in the midst of a global pandemic. It is also important that we acknowledge that although the pandemic is not over, our collective resilience will allow us the opportunity to reimagine what education looks like for our students in Scituate in our quest to become the best school district in the world.

Our focus this year will be to establish a Culture of Collaboration and Personalization where our schools become a “Home Away From Home” for students, staff, families and our community. A place where everyone has a seat at the table, is treated with respect, treated fairly, and appreciated. We will also strive for a Culture of Excellence where academic and personal excellence is an expectation for all. We look forward to sharing with our community specifically what this looks like and welcome your participation.

We understand these are the most challenging of times, but also provide us the greatest opportunity to come together in a unified effort to return to school, safe and strong. We believe schools are the nucleus of the community, with the ability to bring everyone together to ensure we do what is best and safest for children, while protecting the adults who care for and nurture them. We have created a “Safe and Strong Health and Safety Plan” to provide you with the health, safety, and operational protocols and expectations for your child’s return to school. If you have further questions regarding health and safety please reach out to your school nurse or Principal.

Let’s remember that enthusiasm is free and contagious, but so is negativity. We must work relentlessly at the former if we are to succeed in creating a Home Away From Home in our schools this year. A place where everyone is welcome, treated with respect, cared for, and challenged. This opportunity begins now as our students return to in-person, full-time, five days a week learning. Welcome back and Happy New Year!
