Scituate High School Opportunities and Resources for Education - (SHORE)

Established in 1990 by concerned parents when widespread budget cuts threatened the quality of education. SHORE (Scituate High Opportunities and Resources for Education) provides financial support for the three “A’s” (academics, arts, athletics), at Scituate High School.

Since its inception, SHORE has granted over $1,000,000 to provide Scituate students with the best opportunities available to become accomplished young adults.

We invite you to get involved.

SHORE membership continues to increase yearly. Let’s keep the trend going by supporting Scituate High School!

SHORE meets once a month throughout the school year in the high school library. The meetings are at 7pm with grant meetings (October and March) starting at 6:30pm. All meetings are open to the public.

    Scituate Educational Alliance (SEA)

What is the Scituate Education Alliance (SEA)?
SEA is a non-profit partnership dedicated to providing learning opportunities for parents and teachers. By combining resources and exchanging ideas, SEA strives to:

    • Share the responsibility for our children’s education by seeking creative solutions for challenges facing Scituate schools.
    • Sponsor programs addressing educational issues, providing vital information for parents as well as professional development opportunities for teachers.
    • Support the parent-teacher partnership by fostering clear communication channels and increased interaction between educators and families.

SEA is a non-profit charitable organization (501c3) with a board of directors made up of teachers and parents. We have committees that research, administer and fundraise for our programs.

    How is SEA funded?
Support for SEA comes from business and personal donations as well as our fall fundraiser, “SEA on the Sea Cruise” and our spring “SEA and SKI” used sporting equipment sale. Our budgets have averaged $10,000 for the first two years. Everything we raise goes directly into programs. As a non-profit charitable organization we can apply for funding from corporate and educational foundations.

How can teachers play an active role?
SEA is a dynamic organization. We are striving for a balance of parent, teacher and community representation on our board of directors and would welcome anyone interested to attend our open meetings. Teachers who play an active role with SEA are awarded 5 PDP’s on an annual basis from the Scituate School Department. Teachers on our board share valuable insight about the professional development needs within their schools. Their suggestions help to formulate the professional development opportunities we offer to Scituate teachers.

    When does SEA meet?
All SEA meetings are held at the Gates School Media Center and begin at 7PM. Meeting dates are the last Tuesday of the each month: Feb. 26th, March 26th, April 30th, and May 28th, 2002.

    Can I offer feedback?
Ideas and suggestions for programs are always welcome. Our website at www.scituate-sea.org is an easy way to give feedback or call Jeanne Ouellette, SEA Co-President, directly at 781-545-7488.

    Scituate Friends of Music

Scituate Friends of Music (SFM) is made up of parents, teachers and community members who wish to support quality music programming in the Scituate Public Schools. We chaperone field trips, volunteer for musical events and exchange-concerts, as well as handle publicity and fundraising to benefit all music students.
Our past fundraising efforts have allowed us to purchase musical instruments, sheet music, classroom equipment and material for the Kindergarten through Grade 12 music programs. Some of our purchases in the recent past include: sleigh bells; a triangle and cowbell for the High School band; a BOSE Wave Radio for the Hatherly and Cushing chorus (with the assistance of the PTO’s from those schools); a new piano bench and CD player for Wampatuck; a mini disk recorder and microphone for the High School chorus; and music stands, an instrument repair kit and tuner/metronome for the Gates bands.
We need your participation at any level! We usually meet on the first Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the SHS chorus room unless otherwise specifed. It is always good to call ahead to check, because we do occasionally move the day or time or room.  Our first meeting of this fall is on Thursday, October 7. Our meetings are short and informative. If your child studies music in the elementary schools or participates in band or chorus at any of the schools in town, you are already a member of SFM. Volunteering is a great way to meet new people and to be involved with your child as they grow older.
    Please join us!

    Parent Advisory Council (PAC)
Scituate Public Schools - Student Support Services

    Mission Statement
The purpose of our Parent Advisory Council is to support all families. We recognize that families, teachers, and administrators are committed to meet each child’s individual needs together as a team. We will look at district wide issues in a unified fashion joining general and special education.

We recognize that there are many learning profiles in each classroom. We support all children having equal access to innovative educational strategies in a community environment where all children are encouraged to reach their potential.

All students need support. We believe in building a unified system and network for families, educators, and community. We will provide opportunities to share information and discuss matters of interest regarding our children.

We will promote communication and programs to encourage understanding, respect, acceptance and inclusion of all students.
We will stay current on public policy issues on the local, state, and national levels that impact education and inform our community of these issues.

    Scituate Wrestling Boosters

The Scituate Wrestling Boosters are committed to provide the Scituate Wrestling Program (Gates Intermediate School and Scituate High School) the support it needs to offer a quality wrestling experience to student-athletes involved with the program. As its signature fundraiser, the Scituate Wrestling Boosters runs elementary grade ‘Fun Nights’ throughout the school year to support the program in ways the regular operating budget cannot. Elementary grade attendees can expect to participate in an evening of fun, games and socialization with friends. Parents know their son/daughter is being entertained in a safe environment at a very reasonable price. This fundraiser was established in Scituate in 2003 and is a win-win for everyone involved. Information regarding ‘Fun Nights’ are distributed to elementary students by their teachers at their respective schools.

    Friends of Scituate Hockey

The Friends of Scituate Hockey is the High School Parents' Booster Club whose mission is to enhance and supplement the High School's Hockey program. The primary function is to raise funds to purchase supplies, equipment and uniforms for the team and to financially support entirely the recent implementation of a junior varsity program.
The Friends have raised funds each year in a variety of ways including game day 50/50 raffles, program books, sponsorships, a Skate-a-thon, yard sales, and car washes. Additionally, S.H.O.R.E. has contributed to the cost of the JV program. Members of the team and their parents are expected to participate in raising funds for the Hockey team.
