Academic Habits

In order to be academically successful, a student must:

· Complete homework

· Complete major assignments, such as essays

· Prepare for tests

· Make An Effort—Don’t Give Up When Assignment is Difficult

· Get Help When You Need It—See Your Teachers After School

Classroom Behavior

In order to be academically successful, a student must:

· Avoid being a disruption to your teacher, your education or the education of your classmates. These behaviors may include but are not limited to:

o Speaking-out, using inappropriate language, talking back/arguing; excessive talking

o Fooling around and interrupting of the teacher, each other, and the flow of the lesson

o Throwing anything in class

o Making attention-getting noises, gestures

o Not following your teacher’s directions

· Arrive to school and class on time and avoid leaving classroom during lesson (nurse, bathroom, etc)

· Take responsibility for your actions and your success.

Social Behavior

In order to be a good citizen of SHS, a student must:

· Always show respect towards peers and staff in class and school.These behaviors may include but are not limited to:

o Respecting the personal space of others

o Never touching, pushing, rough-housing, slapping with peers during class

o Never touching others’ possessions (e.g. “Nuggeting”)

o Never harassing, bullying, teasing peers.


 

            FRESHMEN CLASS DISCIPLINARY CONSEQUENCES

            Disruptive actions in class (including but not limited to: speaking-out, using inappropriate language, excessive talking, making attention-getting noises, etc.)

            1st Offense: Office det. 1-4 days and up to OSS, Teacher call home

            2nd Offense: Office det. 2-5 days, Parent-school conference

            3rd Offense: OSS 1-3 days, Parent-school conference

            Disrespect towards a staff member (including but not limited to: interrupting the teacher, talking back or arguing with teacher)

            1st Offense: Office det. 4 days and up to OSS, Teacher call home

            2nd Offense: OSS 1-3 days, Parent-school conference

            3rd Offense: OSS 2-4 days, Parent-school conference

            Safety Hazard

            (including but not limited to: throwing things in the classroom, touching, pushing, rough-housing, slapping with peers during class)

            1st Offense: Office det. 1 day and up to OSS 3 days, Teacher call home

            2nd Offense: Office det. 3 days and up to OSS 5 days, Parent-school conference

            3rd Offense: OSS 3-5 days, Parent-school conference

            Disrespectful action or speech (including but not limited to: touching others’ possessions, teasing peers)

            1st Offense: Office det. 4 days and up to OSS, Teacher call home

            2nd Offense: OSS 1-3 days, Parent-school conference

            3rd Offense: OSS 2-4 days, Parent-school conference

            Harassment (including but not limited to: harassing, bullying , touching others’ possessions, teasing peers)

            1st Offense: OSS 2-5 days, Parent-school conference

            2nd Offense: OSS 2-5 days ,Parent-school conference

            3rd Offense: OSS 10 days – Expulsion hearing

            Insubordination (including refusal to do work)

            1st Offense: Office det. 2-4 days

            2nd Offense: Saturday det. and up to OSS 1 day

            3rd Offense: Saturday det. and up to OSS 3 days

            Failure to serve teacher detention

            1st Offense: Office det. 2-4 days Teacher call home

            2nd Offense: Saturday det, Asst. Principal call home

            3rd Offense: Saturday det. Asst. Principal call home

            Vandalism (including but not limited to: defacing school property with marker)

            1st Offense: OSS 2-5 days, Police report made

            2nd Offense: OSS 5 days – Expulsion hearing, Police report made

            3rd Offense: OSS 10 days – Expulsion hearing, Police report made

            Tardy to class

            1st Offense: Teacher det., Teacher call home

            2nd Offense: Office det. 1-3 days, Parent-school conference

            3rd Offense: Office det. 3 days and up to Saturday det., Parent-school conference

            Class cuts

            1st Offense: Office det. 4 days and up to Saturday det.

            2nd Offense: OSS 1-3 days

            3rd Offense: OSS 2-4 days

            NOTE: Office det. = Office detention; OSS = Out of School Suspension; Saturday det. = Saturday detention
