By working with the parents and community, the staff of Jenkins
School is committed to the successful development of the whole child.
General Information
The
Jenkins School is one of four K-6 elementary schools serving students
in the seaside community of Scituate, Massachusetts. A comprehensive
K-6 education is delivered to each of its roughly 620 students
including a high-level visual and musical arts program including chorus
and band programs. Students have the opportunity to learn in modern and
bright classrooms that are well-equipped with current curriculum
materials. The physical plant and grounds include the following
features:
- State of the art gymnasium complete with full, regulation basketball court and stage for performances
- Cafeteria/Kitchen with ample space and equipment to prepare and serve lunches to our students
- Media Center with numerous age-appropriate books and 25 Apple computers
- Reading Support Room with two reading specialists
- Mathematics Support Room with two mathematics specialists
- 3 classrooms equipped with SMART board technology
- Visual Arts Studio
- Musical Arts Suite with Instrumentation Lesson Room and Music Lesson Room
- Speech-Language Room with a Speech-Language Pathologist
- Large,
age-appropriate playground structure, outdoor basketball court, asphalt
game area, and large field area for group games and recess activities
- Organic vegetable and flower garden maintained by parent volunteers and fertilized by compost from our own cafeteria
The
current Jenkins School building is situated on property that was
donated to the town of Scituate by Charles and Emeline Jenkins at the
turn of the 20th century. The current building is the third Jenkins
