Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

ARRIVAL

8:15 a.m. is the earliest students should arrive. Please do not drop off students before this time as there is no supervision available unless the student is enrolled in the before school Y program.

Walking and Bicycling
Students (and parents) are encouraged to walk and bicycle to school and will be welcomed at both entrances of the school.

Crossing Guard on First Parish Road
A crossing guard will be stationed behind the school on First Parish Road for walkers coming from the north, including those students walking from the St. Mary’s lot.

Busses only on Vinal Ave. side of building
In order to provide safe routes to and from Jenkins School every day, please DO NOT drop children off at school on the Vinal Avenue side of the school in the morning between 8:15 and 8:30. Children should be dropped off on the First Parish Road side of the school from 8:15 to 8:30. This is for the safety of YOUR children. Any children who arrive after 9:00 (considered tardy) should enter through Vinal Ave.
DISMISSAL
Each student, not riding a bus, must submit a dismissal form at the beginning of each year. The dismissal process begins at 2:50 p.m. and is staggered to increase safety. A note is required for any change of dismissal other than your student’s daily routine. You may submit a single blanket note for the full year or a note for a particular day.

Walking and Bicycling
To reduce traffic in the lobby, if you are meeting your child, please do so at the back patio or the front bike rack.

All parents should remain outside of the school. PLEASE NOTE THAT PER SPS HANDBOOK (NEW TO 2010-2011), PETS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON SCHOOL PROPERTY DURING THE SCHOOL DAY (INCLUDING ARRIVAL AND DISMISSAL).

Automobile Pick-Up
Children being pick-up by automobile will wait in the gym, and only enter cars in the designated pick-up spots at the curb. This release will begin at 2:50 p.m. Waiting cars are asked to form a queue along the arrows leading to the designated pick-up spots. DO NOT GET OUT OF YOUR CAR, the Jenkins staff will assist your student(s) if necessary. When you see the Parking Lot Full - Please circle around the block. *Do not stop or stand on First Parish Road as police will write tickets for this infraction!

Please try to plan ahead for rainy days. Your child should know where he/she are being picked up before leaving for school. When you have multiple calls at dismissal relaying change of plans to students, it is impossible to get the message to everyone. Thank you.

No Idling Policy
We ask that you turn off your car while waiting for your child (or waiting to drop-off in the morning). We are trying to eliminate the “Island of Pollution” around the school at arrival and dismissal.

HELPFUL HINTS

Please do not use our neighbors’ yards as remote parking spots.

By arriving at 2:55 for dismissal, your pick up time should be shortened. Early arrivals either have to wait in line or circle around if the parking lot is full...

Remember that your child is safe, warm and dry waiting in the gym, so there’s no value in getting there early and simply sitting in the car queue. All students should be picked up by 3:05. Any students not picked up by 3:05 will be brought to the lobby.

There will be NO parking allowed at the Harbor United Methodist Church. We have experienced very dangerous situations, with multiple cars and pedestrians crossing the exit road and parking lot. On wet and icy days the traffic creates a great hazard at the pedestrian crossing on First Parish Road. If coming by car, please use the pick up and drop off area directly behind the gym (First Parish Rd). Please stay in your car and pick up your child, right at the curb behind the gym.

Please do not park in the parking lot during arrival and pickup. All children should be dropped off/picked up in the car line queue.

MID-WINTER SAFETY REMINDERS

1. Make a plan with your child and stick with it…….

2. If your child can not find you at dismissal, they must return to the school building. Your child will be safe and warm until the staff or you get in contact with each other.
