Jenkins Health and Wellness programs are supported by Scituate’s Healthy School Task Force and SPS Wellness Committee. These groups are in place to ensure a healthy, safe and supported environment for all students. The Healthy School Task Force (comprised of administration, wellness educators, director of food services, school counselors, school nurses, parents and other invested community members) is in place to share health-related best practices between SPS schools as well as information on current health trends. Topics discussed include but are not limited to healthy nutrition, social emotional development, substance misuse, community partnerships involving school gardens, etc. The Healthy School Task Force considers existing programming and opportunities in order to make recommendations based on sound data. These recommendations are considered by the SPS Wellness Committee which was established to consider possible changes to procedures and practices occurring within Scituate schools. In essence, the Healthy School Task Force and Wellness Committee are in place to ensure overarching Health and Wellness is considered as part of student’s overall experience with Scituate Public Schools.
