Arrival & Dismissal Procedures

  • Car arrival and dismissal will take place in the front of the school, on Vinal Avenue; bus arrival and dismissal will happen behind the school at the gym entrance, on First Parish Road. Parents will not be allowed to drop-off or dismiss students from the First Parish Road entrance.
  • Car traffic is one-way on Vinal Avenue in the morning, from 8:00 AM until 10:00 AM and from 2:00 PM until 4:00 PM for dismissal in the afternoon. Therefore, drivers will approach Jenkins from the Driftway/Kent Street toward Stockbridge Road, westbound on Vinal Avenue. Drivers will remain in their cars in single file formation. In order to keep all students and families safe, please do not try to access the school coming from Stockbridge Road toward the Driftway/Kent Street.
  • When exiting the school onto Vinal Avenue, all vehicles must turn right, westbound towards Stockbridge Road.
  • Car drivers should not arrive before 8:30 AM in the morning, as that is when the school opens for students. Car drivers should plan to arrive no earlier than 3:00 PM when picking up their children in the afternoon. Following our past practice, cars will pull forward when directed to do so by a staff member. And, as we have always done, children will be greeted during arrival and guided to their vehicles during dismissal.
  • Van Drop Off and Pick Up will still happen in the front of the building. Again, these students will be greeted in the morning by a staff member and brought to the van in the afternoon by a staff member.
  • All walkers, including those to St. Mary’s, First Parish Road, and Vinal Avenue will continue to follow past procedures.

We are asking that all parents are courteous and respectful of the Vinal Ave. neighborhood and be conscious of residents that are arriving at or leaving their homes. Additionally, we urge all parents to exercise extreme care with regards to the pedestrian traffic which will still be present on Vinal Ave.

Parents are always welcome at Jenkins; however, dismissals from the front office/lobby should be avoided after 2:30 PM through 3:15 PM. Please note that students are working until the end of the school day, and early dismissals are disruptive to your child’s learning and the learning of all other children. As always, feel free to contact me with questions or concerns. Thank you in advance for your cooperation and support for keeping students safe. We plan to assess the process in thirty days.

You will find a diagram of this new procedure attached here; you can see it on the Jenkins School website, as well.
