Health and Wellness - REMEMBER THE FOOD PYRAMID THAT WE LEARNED ABOUT IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. IT TAUGHT US ABOUT HEALTHY EATING, AND THE FOOD GROUPS: VEGETABLES, FRUIT, GRAINS, MEAT, AND MILK. WELL, THE US GOVERNMENT HAS CHANGED THEIR THINKING AND HAVE CREATED A NEW MODEL CALLED “MY PLATE” TO HELP US BETTER UNDERSTAND THE IMPORTANCE OF HEALTHY EATING/HEALTHY LIFESTYLE. FEBRUARY IS GOING TO BE THE “MY PLATE” INITITIAVE MONTH AT SHS. IN ADDITION TO THE FOOD DRIVE THE STUDENT GOVERNMENT HAS ARRANGED, THEIR WILL BE DAILY TIPS ON THE ANNOUNCEMENTS, AND DISPLAYS THROUGHOUT THE SCHOOL. “MY PLATE” promotes fruits and vegetables, which cover half the circle. Grains occupy an additional quarter, as do proteins such as meat, fish and poultry. A glass of milk rests to the side.
