Scituate Public Schools

Federal law prohibits discrimination on the basis of race, color or national origin (Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964); sex (Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972); or disability (Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990) in educational programs or activities receiving federal financial assistance. Pursuant to this, the following information is provided for use by Scituate Public School System, parents, students, and other interested parties.

District Meeting, Programs and Activities Policy

The Scituate Public School District recognizes that some areas in its school department buildings are inaccessible to individuals with disabilities and adopts the following policy:

All meetings, conferences, programs and activities in school department buildings are available, without discrimination, to individuals with disabilities as defined by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and/or Title II of the American with Disabilities Act. Whenever an individual with a disability(ies) wishes to attend or participate in a meeting, conference, program, or activity which is inaccessible, that meeting, conference, program, or activity will be relocated to an accessible area. Forty-eight hour notification by the person with a disability(ies) should be made by contacting the Superintendent's office (781-545-8759) of the need of relocation. The Superintendent is responsible for implementing this policy by relocating meetings, conferences, programs, or activities.

Whenever an individual with impaired vision seeks to obtain information under this procedure, the information will be communicated as follows: A Braille copy of the posting, a tape recording of the notice, and the use of a reader, where necessary, will be provided upon request.

Whenever an individual with impaired hearing seeks to obtain information under this procedure, the information will be communicated as follows. An interpreter will provide assistance upon request.

Employees, students and the general public are hereby notified that the Scituate Public School System does not discriminate in any educational programs or activities, nor in employment policies or practices in accordance with these laws and regulations.

Education of Homeless

Every homeless child and youth shall have equal access to the same free, appropriate education and programs as is provided to other children and youth. No homeless child or youth shall be discriminated against, segregated from the mainstream school population, or isolated on the basis of his or her homelessness.
