Department Philosophy: The focus of the family and consumer science program is to positively influence our students' nutritional decision making through a cross-curricular, hands-on approach toward learning. While at Gates students integrate their experiences from mathematics and science classes in the foods lab environment via Paxton-Patterson's Growing Up Ready® interactive technology-based modules. The High School culinary arts courses compliment social studies and history curriculum by connecting how migration and immigrant groups have influenced American and international culture, customs and cuisine.
