Dear Cushing Families,
Did you know you were a member of the Cushing PTO? All parents and teachers at the school make up the PTO. Your ideas, input and contributions are needed to make this school year a success. The Cushing PTO supports an enriched educational experience for all of the children in the Cushing community by funding important programs beyond the core offerings provided by the Scituate school budget. The PTO provides programs and activities that benefit Enrichment (Field Trips and guest programs that come to us) Arts, Physical Education, and Technology. Our PTO monies also provide our teachers with additional supplies for their class-rooms, upkeep of the school grounds beyond what the town provides and other behind the scenes expenses as well as the Directory that is provided to each family. Our budget is currently $18,000.00 to provide all of these services to the Cushing Community.
Our primary PTO fundraising program is now a Direct Donation Program. Direct Donation is the easiest and most profitable way to help financially support our school, as it requires no selling. We’ve tried various other fund raising efforts over the years, including selling wrapping paper, but it was determined that the net proceeds weren’t worth the tremendous amount of work required.
This is our fifth year of the Direct Donation drive at Cushing. Last year, the program raised $8720 to support the students and school with about 30% participating. Imagine what could be done with 80 or 90% participation? Direct Donation is a particularly efficient fundraiser since every dollar you donate benefits your children directly. 100% goes directly into the budget! I would love to reach our goal of $10,000.00 for this year.
In the past, the PTO has provided the Playground at the school, Smart Boards for the classrooms, a Speaker System for the Cafete-ria/Auditorium and last year we purchased 10 iPads for the school.
This year we are working on a Wish List for Cushing School.
Please consider attending a future PTO meeting to discuss some of the options on the “wish list”. We want everyone to have a voice in determining how our funds are spent. This is the original list of ideas. We will work on this list as some items need to be approved by the Technology Committee before we can even consider these as options to supply. Stay tuned…
Cushing PTO is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization and your Direct Donation is tax-deductible. We strongly encourage you to investigate employer matching programs at your workplace, which can double the benefit of your donation.

- Welcome to the start of a new school year and another year of A+ School Rewards. Starting October 6, 2011 through March 29th, 2012, we will again have the opportunity to earn cash through Stop&Shop A+ School Rewards Program. HOWEVER, ALL CARDS MUST BE REGISTERED AGAIN!
- After you register your card, each shopping trip at Stop&Shop using your Stop&Shop Card earns CASH for our school! Each month, the amount awarded will be updated on the Stop&Shop website. You can track the amount of points you earn for Cushing by checking your grocery receipt and online. Cushing will receive a check at the end of the program. The money can be used for any of our school’s educational needs.
- Remember, even if you registered your card last year, you must re-register this year for our school to receive credit.

Scrip is a term that means "substitute money." In this case, it's in the form of gift cards from national and local retailers. They're the same cards that you can buy in stores, and they don't cost anything extra. You pay only face value of the card, but Cushing gets to keep a set percentage. It’s a great offering, especially during the holidays, when gift cards are certainly in demand.
- But it's not just for holiday gift buying - regular, everyday spending can also benefit this program, as it can continue throughout the school year. For example, everyone spends money each month on groceries. When a Stop & Shop $100 gift card is purchased, Cushing earns 4% back. Four dollars doesn't seem like much, but if only 25 families did this just 4 times, we would earn $400.
